Richard Grove
RICHARD GROVE trained primarily for the theater and has a long history as an actor. After graduating from the Yale School of Drama in 1983, he came to Los Angeles and worked in television and film. His most notable role was as “Duke Henry the Red” in Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness. More recently he has lent his voice talent to animated films and machinima. Although he’s been a voracious reader his entire life, he’s only recently turned his hand to writing fiction. With Lisa Morton, Richard co-authored the short story “Forces of Evil Starring Robert Fields” for Midnight Premiere. “Silver Needle” comes from his love of Halloween and his memories of trick or treating as a young boy growing up in Glendale, Arizona. Richard currently works as a book clerk at one of the best bookstores in Los Angeles: The Iliad Bookshop. Just look for him stocking books in the Horror/SciFi section. |
From Midnight Walk's reviews:
"Richard Grove offers up a scary Halloween treat with "Silver Needle"..."
Creature Feature Tomb of Horror
"Scottish folklore and shapeshifting faeries take center stage in Richard Grove's atmospheric Halloween tale, "Silver Needle", in which a thirteen year-old boy out on his first solo Halloween night outing runs afoul of some schoolyard bullies and his own heritage. Armed only with the titular instrument, hidden in the handcrafted costume his grandmother made for him, the boy must undergo a rite of passage into manhood like no another. Grove offers a solid twist on the coming of age tale, perfect for recitation to the kiddies before they venture out trick-or-treating."
Dark Scribe Magazine
"Silver Needle is an absolutely spine tingling Halloween tale about the local haunted house..."
Famous Monsters of Filmland
"Author Grove perfectly captures the eerie essence of Halloween with creaking trees, one-eyed black cats, jack o'lanterns and a supposedly haunted house. He really brings back the original meaning of Halloween, when people believed that the veils between our world and the spirit world were lifted. This story is quite a treat, but it also has some tricks up its sleeve..."
Fatally Yours
"Halloween gets an eerie and atmospheric treatment in Richard Grove's "Silver Needle." Using folklore, Grove delivers a lyrical uneasiness to a trick or treat tale. The supernatural and destiny mingle and merge beautifully."
Hellnotes
"Richard Grove's 'Silver Needle' is a neat little Halloween tale featuring a one-eyed cat and a mysterious house full of even stranger treats."
